Apacer NOX 64GB (2 x 32GB) DDR5 6000MHz Memory Review

Apacer is one of the leading names for memory production, having many of the fastest kits on the market, and a vast range of products to choose from. We've got their latest NOX memory in for review today, a high-end DDR5 kit with speeds available in 5200, 5600, 6000 and 6400 variants. I'll be putting the 6000 MHz kit through its paces today, which features timings of 40-40-40-96, however, there are a few variants of this memory with timings of 40-40-40-80/40-40-40-80/40-40-40-96/40-40-40-84 available. Apacer NOX 64GB DDR5 Memory Available in 8GB to 32GB kits, you can build a package to suit your needs, allowing for up to 64GB configurations. We have two of the 32GB kits at our disposal, so will be testing this in a 64GB configuration. Of course, they come with all the latest luxuries you would expect, such as a premium alloy heatsink to keep them running cool, on-die error correction to ensure stability, Intel's latest XMP 3.0 for one-click overclocking, and they use their meticulously screened DRAM ICs to ensure you get the performance and quality you would expect from a premium brand like Apacer. The keen-eyed among you will see that we have two of them, giving us our desired 64GB configuration. The memory looks great, and I like being able to see it in the packaging, especially if you're shopping in a retail store. Around the back, there's a bit more information, but nothing particularly interesting, so let's crack the box open! Each DIMM comes secured in a plastic clamshell, pretty standard stuff, but it gets the job done. A Closer Look The Apacer NOX memory looks great, with a low-profile design it's sure to be widely compatible with just about any PC configuration, but the heatspreaders are a durable alloy that feels robust and weighty, so should also provide ample cooling to the memory too. While bigger heatsinks are great for cooling, this isn't the fastest kit around and for good quality DDR5 at 6000 MHz, these low-profile heatsinks should be more than enough. The design is pretty cool too, with a mixture of grey and black paint splash marks that give them a unique look and I really like the darker and more toned-down look compared to just throwing RGB on them and calling it a day. The interior is quite surprising, as I don't think I've ever seen a PCB so clean and tidy as this. It almost looks like there's something missing, but not, it's just very neat. The power controller is located in the middle, as voltage management is onboard DDR5 memory, and there are two large capacitors which make good contact with the outer heatsinks ensuring they're cooled efficiently. The memory uses Samsung ICs, which we know to be the best in the business, and should handle the 6000 MHz speeds with ease, but I wouldn't be surprised if they handled a bit of overclocking too. When it comes to our benchmarks in our reviews, the benchmarks are pretty self-explanatory although there are a few exceptions. Remember that your choice of graphics card, CPU, the silicon lottery, and other factors can yield different numbers, and there's always a margin for error when using any software. We put the RAM kit that is being tested into our test system and benchmark it at its first XMP profile using a variety of benchmarks and tests. Once complete, we apply a reasonable overclock where possible and benchmark the same software with the overclocked values. The CPU clock speed is set to default for both runs. AIDA64 Overall, the read, write and copy speeds are very good, typically you do find the speeds slow down in 64GB configurations, and the latency goes up, as with more RAM, the access times increase, but honestly, it's holding up very well with good speeds. Calculation Performance It's pretty competitive in Super Pi, not the fastest, but it's certainly within the same range as the competition. It blasted through WPrime too, scoring just 84.865 seconds, which is pretty quick, but again pretty close to other kits too. Rendering Performance With our seconnd highest score in Blender, the faster speeds and higher capacity are certainly pulling their weight. A bit slower in Cinebench, but this test often favours smaller capacity and higher speed kits, so this was pretty much the result we expected. A bit slow in Corono too, but again just like Cinebench, it's what I expected, but still on par with other similarly equipped kits. FutureMark Performance When it comes to GPU performance, it's doing OK, perhaps a bit lower down the chart than I would like, but nothing overly concerning. And it faired a bit better in TimeSpy, so again, roughly what we were expecting. As we move onto gaming, it holds up great, with a fairly average score, but that's no bad thing at all, and good 1% lows. Cyberpunk 2077 Cyberpunk 2077 is an open-world, action-adventure RPG set in the megalopolis of Night City, where you play as a cyberpunk mercenary wrapped up in a do-or-die fight for survival. It's the same in Cyberpunk, largely in the middle, but that's a good place to be. Dying Light 2 Humanity is fighting a losing battle against the virus. Perforamcne is a little behind on the average, but again, really strong 1% lows makes it a smooth gaming experience. FarCry 6 Welcome to Yara, a tropical paradise frozen in time. A little behind here, but again, all the kits are pretty close overall. Watch Dogs: Legion In the near future, London is facing its downfall: an all-seeing surveillance state is oppressing the people, private militaries control the streets, and a powerful crime syndicate is preying on the vulnerable. The fate of London lies with you and your ability to fight back. Available now on UPlay. And finally, a really good score in Watch Dogs, so overall, it performed very good indeed. Temperatures The low-profile heatsinks may not look much, but for a 6000 MHz DDR5 kit, they're clearly more than up to the task, with some very low temperatures at load. How Much Does It Cost? Memory stock and prices are always in flux, so it's not really easy for me to nail down the price on this key. However, I did find stock at one retailer (morecoco) for just £97.99 per 32GB kit. You can also check for up-to-date stock and prices on Amazon here. Overview Apacer is one of the biggest names in the business, and after today's review, it's pretty easy to see why. This isn't the most attention-grabbing memory kit, with a low-profile design and some relatively modest specifications, but it does strike a great balance that resulted in very consistent and reliable performance, and for me, consistency and reliability are high up on my list of wants from any computer hardware. The low-profile design makes it very easy to accommodate into a wide variety of system builds. However, despite the compact size, the overall temperatures are pretty low, so overheating or any throttling simply isn't going to be a concern here. The Samsung ICs are known to be the best on the market, so I'm happy to see them here, and they're often some of the best when it comes to aftermarket overclocking. However, with the slimmer heatsinks, and how well they perform on their XMP 3.0 profile, I feel there's no need to tinker with the otherwise great performance here. I also love that there's no RGB. Now, don't get me wrong, I love RGB and having that level of customisation, but it's been nice in recent months to see the trend switch back to more understated designs and simpler aesthetics, and I think that's also reflecting in slightly lower prices too, which is certainly a good thing too. Should I Buy One? When it comes to performance, the Apacer NOX 64GB (2 x 32GB) DDR5 6000MHz Memory certainly delivers, with some of the most consistent gaming performance we've seen yet. While some other kits do score higher in a few other benchmarks, they're usually up and down the charts from game to game, but Apacer managed some of the strongest overall averages we've seen so far, competitive prices, low temperatures, and a durable and well throughout design that makes the NOX some of the most appealing consumer memory on the market right now.
