Apacer PT920 Commando PCIe SSD Now Available in the UK

Apacer announced the PT920 Commando PCIe SSD about four months ago and now it is available in the UK. The PT920 Commando is quite different from other SSDs, at least on the surface. The weapon-themed casing will make it appeal to some users while others will avoid it due to it. That said, the internals aren’t bad, and after all, that’s what really matters in a storage drive.
Apacer PT920 Commando
Apacer releases two capacity options for this new drive, one with 240GB and one with 480GB. the PCIe Gen.3 x4 add-in drive can deliver up to 2500MB/s read and 1350MB/s write performance. Random write operations are rated up to 175K IOPS which is nice. The PT920 Commando is NVMe 1.2 compliant and utilises MLC NAND.
Besides performing well, a drive also needs to have a well-equipped set of features. Apacer added 120bit/2KB ECC, End-to-End Data Protection, Smart ECC, and SmartRefresh to the PT920. More ordinary features such as SMART and global wear levelling are also included.
The large cover isn’t just for looks either, it works as an effective heatsink. And a heatsink is needed for NVMe drives. They easily run between 70 and 85 degrees without, and that’s something which could result in thermal throttling. Boom goes the performance. But that should never become an issue with this drive.
PT920 COMMANDO’ s shape of an assault rifle literally takes the meaning of gaming to a deeper level: The spirit must start from the very core, from the very inside of your computer.
