Apple has announced that the total number of apps downloaded from its app store has now topper 15 billion.
Under 6 months ago they announced that they had gone over the 10 billion mark, it was only a month ago that they went over 14 billion. The growth of the app store is therefore around the 1 billion per month mark, although it is accelerating (or as Hexus put it, ‘Appceleration’).
It took the app store nine months to reach the first billion downloads and two years total to get to five billion.
More impressive stats from Apple, there are now over 200 millions iOS users worldwide, although only 425,000 apps in total, and there are already over 100,000 dedicated iPad apps. Developers of iOS apps have apparently made $2.5 billions dollars for all of these apps.
In just three years, the revolutionary App Store has grown to become the most exciting and successful software marketplace the world has ever seen,” said Philip Schiller, Apple SVP of worldwide product marketing, with classic Apple understatement. “Thank you to all of our amazing developers who have filled it with over 425,000 of the coolest apps and to our over 200 million iOS users for surpassing 15 billion downloads.
Of course, Apple is still trying to promote the iPad hard and the fact that they already have 100,000 apps for the iPad show just how much growth is still possible. No doubt before the end of the year they will surpass 20 billion downloads
