Apple have been going lawsuit-mad lately, targeting their biggest competitor in the smartphone and tablet industry: Samsung. Samsung seem to be directly in Apple’s bullseye, but Apple are now aiming just off the mark and hitting someone very close to that bullseye: Kodak.
Kodak are now on the receiving end of Apple’s seemingly endless patent lawsuits, where the Cupertino-based company is now seeking approval from a New York court over Kodak’s patent infringement. Kodak only filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy just over a month ago now, and have said they did so to focus more on their core products, doing so, they killed off their camera business.
Apple have filed a patent complaint over technologies that Kodak use in their printers, digital cameras and digital picture frames. When you talk about “kicking someone when they’re down”, this is how you do it. Apple are suing Kodak for those exact technologies, which is now their main source of business and hence, income.
If their request is approved, Apple would have the power to seek a ban of sale on Kodak’s infringing products. This could spell some seriously disastrous results for Kodak, who are already in a world of trouble.
