Apple Campus: details revealed

Do you remember when there was a lot of talk about a spaceship-like Apple campus? Well I do, and I was amazed to tell you the truth. Recently the Cupertino City Council has revealed more information.
Here is a list of the things you’ll probably find in that spaceship, I’m sorry, campus:
- An Office, Research and Development Building comprising approximately 2.8 million square feet;
- A 1,000 seat Corporate Auditorium;
- A Corporate Fitness Center;
- Research Facilities comprising approximately 300,000 square feet;
- A Central Plant;
- Associated Parking.
Now that’s quite nice a list, although it comes to no surprise seeing that Apple is richer than the U.S. government and was for a sometime the most valuable company in the world (few days back).
The documents of Apple’s proposal are also public, so if you’re an avid fan or you’re interested you can read the Introduction, Site Plan & Landscaping, Floor Plans and Rendering (all in PDF).
If you can’t remember what we’re talking about, here is a description from Steve Jobs himself (the golden boy) from back in June:
It’s a pretty amazing building. It’s a little like a spaceship landed. It’s got this gorgeous courtyard in the middle… It’s a circle. It’s curved all the way around. If you build things, this is not the cheapest way to build something. There is not a straight piece of glass in this building. It’s all curved. We’ve used our experience making retail buildings all over the world now, and we know how to make the biggest pieces of glass in the world for architectural use. And, we want to make the glass specifically for this building here. We can make it curve all the way around the building… It’s pretty cool.
If you’re interested in giving it a visit, you’ll have to wait for 2015 approximately.
