Apple Confirms Autonomous Vehicle Project

Rumors have been going around about Apple’s autonomous vehicle for almost two years now, and during that time, a few of the world’s leading experts shared their opinions on this open secret project, including Elon Musk. He said that he welcomes the idea, as competition in the electric car segment can only mean good things for consumers, and it looks like there will definitely be some competing going on, as Apple has just confirmed that it is working on its own electric vehicle. The news was revealed through a letter addressed to the U.S. NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration), in which the company confirms its ongoing efforts to create an autonomous transport system.
Written by Apple’s Director of Product Integrity Steve Kenner, the letter states that Apple is using ‘machine learning’ in order to make sure that the driver and other traffic participants would be completely safe.
“Apple uses machine learning to make its products and services smarter, more intuitive, and more personal. The company is investing heavily in the study of machine learning and automation, and is excited about the potential of automated systems in many areas, including transportation.”
Furthermore, it looks like the company wants to be treated fairly when it commences its testing sessions for this upcoming vehicle, which means that it doesn’t want hurdles just because it’s not a car-only brand. Even though we know that Apple is indeed working on a self-driving car, we still have no idea how it’s going to work or what other projects will serve as inspiration for it.
