According to Strategy Analytics analyst Neil Mawston, Apple may in the process of creating a new iPhone Mini that could be seen later this year.
The reason for this is that Samsung has clearly dominated the smartphone war that has been going on, whereas Apple are in second place. The difference between them may become wider in 2013. According to the report that was sent to CNET , Samsung would be having a 33% of the smartphone market this year whereas Apple would most likely have have 21% share.
Samsung has holds a larger share of the market because they have phones in every price bracket which help them to capture a wider audience over Apple.
Mawston said:
We believe Apple will have to launch an ‘iPhone Mini’ at some point over the next three years to address the hundreds of millions of prepaid users worldwide that cannot afford the current iPhone. The iPhone 5 is growing fast and profitably right now, so there is limited incentive for Apple to launch a profit-squeezing ‘iPhone Mini’ this year. We expect the ‘iPhone Mini’ to be more likely next year, in 2014, when Apple’s penetration of the global postpaid smartphone market will be nearing saturation and Apple will be forced to discover fresh growth streams elsewhere.
