Apple Inks Deal With China

The iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c will be made available in China from January 17th 2014

Under a new deal that has been in the works for years Apple will release the iPhone 5s and the iPhone 5c to the Chinese market starting January 17 2014. The phones will be made available through the Apple retail stores throughout china and will be available at China Mobile. With access to China Mobile’s 700 million subscribers, and the network rolling out the biggest 4g network in the world the deal couldn’t have come at a better time. With this deal apple will be able to boost its sales after a dramatic drop in its global market share.

Apple CEO Tim Cook went on to say this about the new deal;

China is an extremely important market for Apple and our partnership with China Mobile presents us the opportunity to bring the iPhone to the customers of the world’s largest network. iPhone customers in China are an enthusiastic and rapidly growing group, and we can not think of a better way to welcome in the Chinese New Year than getting an iPhone into the hands of every China Mobile customer who wants one.”

The deal which has been in negotiations for years, finally passed the one hurdle that was holding Apple back from releasing their phone into the Chinese market. That being that Apple reportedly wanted demand for sales volume guarantees. This shouldn’t be a problem for Apple with market tracking firms expecting Apple to sell as many as 24 million iPhone’s on the China Mobile network within its first year on the market. It is a great step for Apple, although they will still have to compete with the lower priced Android powered smartphones all ready on sale in China.
