Apple Might Be Designing Smart Windshields for Self-Driving Cars

Some of the world’s leading automobile manufacturers, including BMW, Hyundai and Volvo have already revealed that they are working on smart windshields that can provide important notifications and various multimedia controls for drivers. It looks like Apple might also be working on a smart windshield, albeit for self-driving cars, which could be related to its mysterious Project Titan. Project Titan is rumored to be an impressive undertaking that engages hundreds of Apple workers, as it involves building a self-driving minivan. The rumors are backed by the several sightings of camera-mounted Apple vans that were driving across California not too long ago.
Should it be installed in self-driving vehicles, the HUD could provide important information regarding navigation, road conditions and potential hazards, not to mention the plethora of entertainment-related applications. A research firm has reported that Apple is “very likely” to develop a 27 to 50-inch display that could project clear icons onto a car’s curved glass windshield. This is not the first time that the tech giant is working on a secret and innovative project, but we’ll just have to wait and see what actually becomes of Project Titan. Below you will find a video of the already functional Jaguar-Land Rover head-up display system.
