While Apple’s new iPhone 8 is not expected to hit the market until fall 2017, rumours are abound about the release including information about the display as well as pricing and more information are trickling out further. Rumours suggest that Apple is planning to break out of the two-model strategy with up to three or even four new models if a higher tier iPhone 8 model is launched.
Only the new iPhone 8 is expected to sport an OLED display from Samsung although from what the rumours suggest it will only be a 5.2” unit with the expected iPhone 7S Plus being 5.5” and the iPhone 7S smaller at 4.7”. Both new iPhone 7 models are expected to look similar to the current 7th generation iPhones but with an all-glass body instead of aluminium alloy and will be available in red, black, jet black, gold, rose gold and silver colour options. No details have surfaced yet about the iPhone 8 Plus which is expected to be the fourth model in the group release but many of the reports have been conflicting in terms of details. Wall Street Journal reports that Apple has up to ten prototypes of the next-gen phone so this explains the discrepancy in information.
Aside from display and appearances, the processor inside the iPhone 8 is expected to be an A11 chip based on the 10nm FinFET process as TSMC has begun taping it out in May and expected to be ready for fall 2017.
