While everyone is distracted by Apple‘s announcement of the new iPhones, they have quietly increased the pricing on their iPad Pro line. The price on the iPad Pro 10.5 and 12.9 inch models for example, bumped up by $50 USD at the same time. This brings the price of the 10.5 inch model to $799. While the 512GB model is at $999. The larger 12.5 inch iPad Pro is now $949 after the bump, while the 512GB storage version costs $1,149.
Thankfully, the 64GB base model pricing remains unchanged. The 10.5-inch version is still $649, while the 12.9-inch model costs $799. This makes sense considering Apple deliberately wanted these models to be competitive to Android tablets. Especially for students and entry level users. As for the reason as to why there is a price increase, 9to5mac suggests that this is highly likely because of the current NAND shortage crisis. There is no reprieve in sight for the lack of flash memory storage supply. Analysts believe the trend will continue well into 2018.
The price change is not just on Apple’s website. It already shows the new price listing worldwide in major stores including Best Buy in the US. This suggests that this likely has been in the books for a while, and Apple just needed the right time to impose the hike. Doing so during their biggest press event as a distraction is a very smart move.
