Apple Announce Release Date of New High-Spec iMac Pro

Apple iMac Pro

Apple is set to launch their brand new iMac pro on December 14th. For the company, this will represent one of their most powerful desktop computers ever released.

As with all Apple products (or at least most), it is highly impressive. The new specification has a lot of bells and whistles that even your top-end PC specs miss out on. This by no means should suggest that it is better than a PC, we at eTeknix prefer to avoid that whole debate.

If you overlook the amazingly sleek design, there is a lot going on with this iMac Pro. Featuring a 27-inch Retina 5k display and up to an 18-core Xeon processor, this desktop will be capable of anything up to 22 Teraflops of graphical computation.

This might, therefore, be a fantastic little workhorse for your artistic, video and musical requirements.

High air flow

Apple has also revealed a pretty impressive looking new air flow system. Drawing air in what would appear to be some form of turbine/turbofan system it should keep this high-powered monster running smoothly.

Now, of course, the price is a factor. This is an Apple product after all.

In a report via Metro, it is going to be a little expensive and by a little, we mean massively. The most basic model of the new iMac Pro will cost a princely £4,949.

While this is prohibitively expensive, it should again be noted that this is going to be one of Apple’s most powerful products. John Ternus, Apple’s VP of hardware engineering has said: ‘We re-engineered the whole system and designed an entirely new thermal architecture to pack extraordinary performance into the elegant, quiet iMac enclosure our customers love — iMac Pro is a huge step forward and there’s never been anything like it.’

Maybe it’s this price to try and quickly make the $400m they spent on Shazam.

While the iMac Pro will undoubtedly be an excellent machine, the price will be an obstacle for many.
