Apple Announce Upcoming Update Will Allow Slowdown Removal Option

Apple Announced Slowdown Removal

For a long time, a rumour circulated around Apple phone owners. The rumour was that the company deliberately slowed down older models.

The rumour itself found a lot of traction late in 2017 which eventually led the company to admit the truth. It was deliberately slowing down older phones in IOS updates.

As part of the revelation, Apple decided, as a means of appeasing its fans, to reduce the price of battery replacement.

While making a big deal of this in the US, they were moderately quiet about it everywhere else. I can, however, confirm that owners of iPhone 6’s can qualify for a battery replacement for just £24.00. How do I know this? Because I had mine changed 2 weeks ago.

A report via the Guardian suggests, however, that Apple might want to offer their users an easier solution. In an upcoming update to the IOS, Apple will give users affected the option to turn the slowdown off.

Slowdown solution, but at your own risk

Apple has said that in an IOS update, expected in March, users affected by the slowdown will be given the option to turn it off. This will, therefore, have phones running at their full and true capability.

There is, however, one minor caveat. Apple has said that users will do so at their own risk and switching off the slowdown may cause sudden power failures.

Despite some accusations that the slowdown was implemented to get users to upgrade to newer models, the phone manufacturer has always insisted it was to make older batteries last longer.

Therefore removing the slowdown is essentially removing the battery durability protection.

What do you think? Would you keep or remove the slowdown? Worried about the risk to your battery by removing it? Considering getting a battery replacement? – Let us know in the comments!
