While the livestream of the big unveiling event is creating trouble for Apple, the news ticker works great and we’re able to bring you some of the latest news directly from the event. The whole thing started with a historical view back on the location; the Flint Center. It was here in 1984 that Steve Jobs introduced the Macintosh for the first time and it was the same place Steve introduced the famous iMac in 1998.
Now it’s time for Apple’s next big thing. Tim Cook started the presentation, “Today, we are pleased to announce the biggest advancement in iPhone.” the new iPhone6 and iPhone6 Plus. Both the new phones have a continuous seamless design without any distinct edges, the glass is curved to the back where it meets the anodized aluminium casing.
Both models will feature the new improved Retina HD display that uses dual-domain pixels on the photo-aligned IPS display. This gives the user a wider viewing angle as well as support of the full sRGB gamut. The glass is ion-strengthened and has a size of 4.7 and 5.5 inch respectively.
The iPhone 6 has a resolution of 1334 by 750 with 326 pixels per inch, going slightly past the 720p mark. The plus model on the other hand has a full HD display with 1920 by 1080 resolution and 401 pixels per inch. Where the old iPhone was 7.6mm thick, the new generation have been sent on a diet and have had all their unnecessary fat cut away. The iPhone 6 is only 6.9mm thick while the Plus model needs another 0.2mm and is 7.1mm thick.
Both new phones are powered by the Apple designed A8 chip with up to 25% faster processing power and up to 50% faster graphics. The processor is said to be 50 times faster than the original iPhone, and 84% faster in graphics. Though it’s quite some years ago that the original iPhone was released, it’s still an accomplishment. The new CPU is also said to be up to 50% more power efficient.
Barometer, accelerometer, gyroscope and compass are all present and supported by the M8 co-processor, and all tied into the health and apps system to give you more detail about everything. LTE support is said to be the best available in any smartphone and present for over 200 carriers all around the world. The new iPhone will also allow you to send crisp clear Voice over LTE.
It has 802.11ac WiFi to match the newest standards and top speeds in network environments, and WiFi calling is a new feature for making high-quality calls when cell conditions are poor.
The iPhone 6 has an 8MP iSight camera, 1.5µ pixels, f/2.2 aperture and an all new sensor. The new version of the iPhone should take even better photos and videos with these improvements on both the software and hardware side.
