Arctic Accelero Twin Turbo 6990 VGA Cooler Review

Arctic have truly outdone themselves when you consider the acoustic performance. Not only do we have significantly lower GPU temperatures under all usage scenarios but we also have a cooler that is quieter than the stock cooler at idle when under Furmark load. Considering the background noise level is 35 dBA, for us to be seeing numbers of just 45 dBA under Furmark load I am hugely impressed. Given how noisy the stock HD 6990 is, this is an absolute saviour. After installing the Accelero Twin Turbo 6990 on our HD 6990 I actually wanted to use it again – whereas before I avoided using it because it was just so loud and unpleasant.
More importantly though is the gaming load noise. As you can see, a reduction of 27 dBA makes a staggering difference. In fact between idle and gaming load the Arctic cooler rises just 1 dBA whilst the stock cooler rises 18 dBA, which I think is testament to the GPU cooling efficiency of the Arctic cooler.
I can’t imagine an enthusiast would get much better acoustic performance from water cooling, considering the fans you’ll have to use on your radiator will have a very similar noise output to the noise given out by these 120mm Arctic PWM fans.
