As always to mount your product correctly its best to use the provided manual, but we’ll tell you a little bit about the mounting procedure anyway so you have some additional insight. The hardest part of the install in our opinion was removing the stock cooler and clean up. Once you’ve done that the majority of the hard work is done. First you should take your blue thermal pads, peel the plastic off both sides and attach it to the underside of your cooler. Then remove the protect coverings on the GPU contact plates, add enough of the provided Arctic MX-2 thermal paste to each GPU contact plate.
Now your cooler is prepared it is literally a case of now mounting it, which is a very easy procedure. You simply put the new cooler into place and screw it in, that is about all there is too it. Make sure you plug the fan header in before you secure the cooler onto the HD 6990 PCB. It’s worth noting that once your Arctic Accelero Twin Turbo 6990 is installed you will end up with 3 spare screws from when you took apart the reference cooler. These are not needed but you may want to keep them handy for warranty issues in case you need to reattach the stock cooler.
The screw hole at the top left is one of the spare screws you’ll end up with.
The Accelero Twin Turbo 6990 adds a lot of height to the graphics card, which shouldn’t be an issue for most. On the PCI bracket at the top, you can see two empty screw holes these are the other two spare screws you’ll end up with as there is no where to screw these in. We found that because the PCI bracket doesn’t screw directly into the Arctic VGA cooler, you may have support issues once you install this into your case – in other words the HD 6990 PCB may start to bend or sag under the weight of the heavy cooler.
