As mentioned already, Arctic include a very generous selection of VRM and RAM heat sinks for the HD 7970. Some of them are thinner than others in order to prevent blocking the mounting system.

It is also important to note you must apply the thermal paste/ thermal glue to the components first so the heat sinks will be held in to place, as demonstrated below:

You should then push these heat sinks firmly onto the components they are intended to cool and hold it there long enough for the glue to set slightly.

The included thermal grease comes with a spreader to help with application.

The final mount, excluding the actual cooler for picture purposes, should look something like this.
