Bohemia Interactive’s Argo FPS Game Launched for Free—Has Zero Microtransactions

Arma 3 developer Bohemia Interactive finally launched their free-to-play shooter game Argo (formerly Project Argo). The game is originally a conversion of Arma 3, but is now a stand alone 5v5 multiplayer tactical game. Players can choose between playing one of two rival mercenary factions and be deployed in a massive 62km^2 island. Players are free to roam and explore the unrestricted terrain, as long as they stay alive long enough to enjoy the sights.

Argo Game Modes

There are three competitive game modes available: Clash, Link and Raid. In Clash, two units battle over territory in a series of combat engagements. In Link, the objective is to capture a chain of points before the enemy takes control. Raid tasks one unit to find a data terminal while the other unit needs to defend the three possible locations.

Is it Really Free?

Yes. The game is completely available for free via Steam. Simply download and play right away. Bohemia Interactive promises that there will be ZERO microtransactions. However, there is a completely optional “Supporter’s Pack” available for those who simply want to say thanks and support the project. For £7 ($10 USD), users get the following bonus content:

  • A set of 13 exclusive animations for the MVP screen.
  • Bundle of 23 unique apparel items, including facewear, headwear, and backpacks (these items are purely cosmetic and do not offer any gameplay benefits).
  • Highlighted name in the leaderboards.
  • Access to premium servers that will be exclusively available for Argo Supporters.
  • Controllable vehicles in Argo’s Scenario Editor.

System Requirements

The minimum requirements only call for Intel Dual-Core 2.4 GHz or AMD Dual-Core Athlon 2.5 GHz CPU. The graphics card requirement is also just as lenient that it could run an an Intel HD graphics 4000 GPU. Players who want to max out the settings would need an i5-4460 paired with a GTX 660 GPU.
