Artist Creates Incredible Halo 4 Cinematic in UE4

Halo has a strong history of looking pretty great, at least, relative to the generation of hardware it was released on. Of course, the newer Master Chief Collection has done wonders keeping things up to date, and even remastering many of the older titles too. However, William Faucher, Realtime TD and Unreal Artist at Qvisten Animation has created a Halo cinematic that really pushes things to the next level. It even looks better than Halo: Infinite, although some may argue that’s not too difficult; I am not one of those people though.

Halo 4 Cinematic in UE4

Using an RTX 2060 SUPER to do the rendering, the video was created in Unreal Engine 4. As you’ll see, it features Master Chief, looking pretty sharp thanks to higher resolution textures that give him some incredibly detailed armour. There’s a range of slick filters on here too, which hide the environment, but that’s fine, this is just a fan project after all, not a game.

The only downside is that at least at the moment, this project isn’t available to download and tinker with. Of course, we do have a video for you to enjoy, so not all is lost. Plus, it’s been uploaded in 4K, and it does look oh so pretty.

“I’ve finally wrapped up this project I’ve been working on over the past few months. As always, it started as a small, innocuous thing. But of course, as always, it grew and grew in scope. What was originally supposed to be 1-2 still images turned out to be over 30 seconds of video. Great. Rendered with Movie Render Queue, check out my tutorial about here. A making-of/behind the scenes video is in the works! Fully rendered in Unreal Engine 4 (4.26) with RTX 2060 Super. Base Model by Kristian Berget. Final model optimization, extra details, UV’s, texturing, done by me. Art direction, environment art, lighting, rendering, editing, done by me. Music by Epidemic Sound.”
