With AMD set to release a surprisingly large number of new Ryzen 4000 and 5000 processors over the coming weeks (including the very exciting 5800X3D), consumers looking to upgrade to these latest models will likely not be surprised to learn that doing so on existing motherboard hardware will require a BIOS update. Even if you’re buying a new motherboard for the occasion, this is still well worth paying attention to as it does, generally speaking, take a little while before this eventually trickles down into support available off the shelf and out the box. – While a number of manufacturers have already announced their current roadmaps in terms of BIOS releases, however, this time its the turn of ASRock who have confirmed their full upcoming support for these latest Ryzen CPUs on their 400 and 500-series of motherboard designs.

ASRock – Motherboard BIOS Update for New AMD Ryzen CPUs

As part of the official announcement, ASRock has said:

“ASRock AMD X570/B550/A520/X470/B450 motherboards will support the latest AMD Ryzen 5000/4000 series processors, including Ryzen 7 5800X3D. ASRock always design ahead to get for new processors and has been working with AMD to validate the latest BIOS AGESA code. The 3D V-Cache technology of AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D processor offers significant improvements on gaming performance, update to the latest BIOS and get ready to game with new AMD Ryzen processors.”

Where Can I Learn More?

Having made a quick check of their support website, it does appear that this latest version is available to download now for the following ASRock motherboard platforms:

  • X570
  • B550
  • A520
  • X470
  • B450

Perhaps surprisingly though, when compared to other manufacturers on this subject, ASRock’s list is among some of the most concise and limited. There is, after all, no word (yet) on support for their 300-series which AMD has already confirmed should be good to go for their new processors. Given that we’re still yet to officially see one of these CPUs even release yet, however, time is definitely on everyone’s side at the moment. So be patient, and your trusty old AM4 motherboard might be well rewarded!
