ASRock Finds a Way to Bypass Intel’s Non-K BClk OC Limits

You’re probably well-aware of the fact that Intel has removed the possibility to overclock non-K Skylake chips by using the BClk, and even though that should have been the end of the story, ASRock has decided to challenge Intel once more. ASRock’s solution to circumvent Intel’s OC limits is based on external clock generators, which were installed in the company’s latest motherboards, namely the Fatal1ty H170 Gaming K4 HYPER and Fatal1ty B150 Gaming K4 HYPER. These motherboards were unveiled just a little while ago, and they are both based on a common PCB. The main difference between them is in the chipset, as the first is based on H170 Express while the second uses B150 Express.

Both of these motherboards are equipped with a special external clock generator chip that gives cadence to the CPU thus bypassing the on-die clock generator installed by Intel on its latest processor generations. Users can take advantage of this feature and increase the base clock frequency of non-K Intel chips using fine increments of 0.0625 MHz. The memory clock can also be tweaked a bit, but apart from this key feature, these products feature mid-range specifications that are incredibly similar to those found on ASRock’s Fatal1ty H170 Gaming K4 and the Fatal1ty B150 Gaming K4 boards.

What do you think Intel’s response will be, though?
