Gen 5 SSD’s are coming in at high speeds which demand the best cooling solutions, unfortunately, the best so far have included tiny noisy fans and ASRock has just introduced the Blazing M.2 Gen 5 heatsink which also features a tiny noisy fan.
This new heatsink from ASRock is a small 5-cm tall tower of extruded aluminium featuring a tiny 30mm fan providing ventilation at roughly 5CFM. These coolers were initially released with ASRock motherboards and ASRock has released 3 more today shown in the table below as type 3, 4 and 5. ASRock claims that these coolers will significantly lower the temperatures of SSD controllers to reduce the risk of thermal throttling.
ASRock is expected to price these coolers at around $30 and are compatible with specific ASRock motherboards with no information on compatiblity with motherboards from other brands. You can find out what boards these heatsinks are compatible with and more information on this cooler at ASRock’s website.
I’ve no reason to buy a Gen 5 SSD let alone a Gen 4 SSD as Gen 3 provides plenty of speed for my usecases. If I were a user of a Gen 5 SSD i’d be much happier with a slab of aluminum rather than deal with the noise of one of these tiny fans.
What is your opinion on these Gen 5 fanned heatsinks? Let us know in the comments.
