ASRock is looking to introduce PCI-E generation 3 into the mainstream motherboard market on the LGA 1155 socket. ASRock is trying to create a range of future proof boards that will be able to withstand future changes to the motherboard market and in essence they will be the only major provider of PCI-E 3.0 motherboards. They are preparing 5 boards with PCI-E Gen 3 capabilites four based on the Z68 chipset and one from the P67 chipset.
All model names will feature the “Gen 3” in them as part of the identification process of the PCI-E 3.0, the five boards are:
- Z68 Extreme7 Gen3
- Fatal1ty Z68 Professional Gen3
- Z68 Extreme4 Gen3
- Z68 Extreme3 Gen3
- P67 Extreme4 Gen3
The PCI-E Gen 3 boasts twice as much memory bandwidth at a huge 32GB/s and 8GT/s up from 5GT/s on the PCI-E Gen 2 slots. ASRock hasn’t yet released pricing details but expect prices to be competitive as the ASRock brand always is.
