ASRock has been drawing up plans for a few new boards and the latest theme that they have taken a liking to is Transformers. Perhaps influenced by their parent company ASUS flirting with the transformers theme throughout their tablet range, although this has raised some problematic legal issues between ASUS and Hasbro. We would certainly hope ASRock have had the wisdom to contact Hasbro about this in advance.
The first board is based around Optimus Prime and takes on a red and blue colour scheme to match the Optimus Prime colour scheme. Obviously as these are only concept images we won’t draw too much from them in terms of specifications but both these boards do pack five PCI-E 3.0 lanes along with a single PCI-E 1X lane. And there is also by the looks of things 8 DIMM slots and 12 SATA ports of an unknown configuration.
The second board is based on Bumblebee and attains a yellow and black colour scheme and is exactly the same board as the Optimus Prime board but in different colours. Remember both these boards are conceptual ideas and still in their early stages so it is likely they would get more customisations if they were to come into production such as Transformer-like heat sinks and a new brand name which would be written on the board somewhere.
It seems likely ASRock is doing this to gauge public opinion to the boards and see whether they are likely to be a big hit. What do you think? You can see more feedback by visiting the ASRock Facebook Page or by visiting the appropriate photo album to see what everyone else is saying about it.
