ASRock preparing the X79 Extreme6

ASRock certainly have all bases covered when it comes to LGA 2011, their X79 boards now cover all price points from entry to extreme overclocker. The latest addition the Extreme6 is designed to fit somewhere in between the Extreme7 and Extreme4. Arguably this board is also a response to Intel’s DX79TO and it competes quite effectively with MSI’s X79A-GD45 8D.

ASRock never seem to skimp on the VRM these days and having a 12 phase high quality VRM on an ‘entry’ level LGA 2011 board is a very nice inclusion. ASRock have also managed to cram 8 DIMM slots onto the Extreme6 meaning if you have the pockets to fund 64GB of RAM then your board can support it. Your also going to be getting three PCI-E 3.0 lanes of which they configure like this: 16X/16X/8X but as we discussed already in terms of Bandwidth for a ultra-high performance card lik the HD 7970 PCI-E 3.0 8X bandwidth is more than enough. They also chuck in a PCI-E 1X slot and a couple of PCI slots for additional connectivity.

Storage connectivity includes five SATA 6 Gb/s internal ports, four SATA 3 Gb/s internal ports, and one eSATA 6 Gb/s. Other connectivity includes 8-channel HD audio, one gigabit Ethernet connection, Firewire, four USB 3.0 ports, and a number of USB 2.0 ports. This board will also (like more expensive models) include a ASRock GameBlaster (or in our case on the Extreme9 Game Bla ter) which occupies a PCI-E slot.
