ASRock Rolling Out New BIOS for Intel SA-00088 Security Update

ASRock is rolling out a newer BIOS update which addresses the latest Intel security advisory. Intel’s previous “fix” proved to be problematic for many users. Specifically, they found their systems rebooting and bricking unexpectedly. Naturally, not many are happy with how Intel is handling the situation. Some are even accusing Intel of making it needlessly complicated so that the performance benchmarks do not show as big of a hit. For their part, Intel says they have identified the cause of the reboot issue and are working around the clock for the fix.

For their partners such as ASRock, all they want is for their users to have their system working again. Which is why the need for a new update. They intend to closely work with Intel to fix not just the latest Z370 and X299 boards, but previous 8/9/100/200/X99 series as well.

Stay Tuned for Updates

Not all boards have an update yet, but users can go to the SA-00088 security update landing page to check for their board. Users can also go to the part of ASRock’s website listing the latest updated BIOS files. Users who are running Haswell and Broadwell systems in particular, are advised to hold back on applying a BIOS update until Intel issues a proper fix.
