Seeing limited or special edition motherboards is certainly nothing new or overly unusual. It seems, however, that with the launch of the new Z790 platform, ASRock might be set to officially reveal a pretty cool surprise. – Following a number of Twitter posts by reliable leak source ‘@momomo_us‘ a number of images have appeared online showcasing a new ASRock Z790 PG motherboard which is officially endorsed by Sonic the Hedgehog (ie. Sega).

ASRock Z790 PG Sonic Motherboard
We should note that, at the time of writing, this motherboard has yet to be officially confirmed by ASRock. So, in other words, while it certainly looks legitimate, until something is formally announced, take it with a grain of salt. – Presuming that this is accurate though, (we believe so because if it is a fake then a hell of a lot of work went into it), then this undoubtedly looks like a really awesome and unique design.
While essentially being based on their already confirmed Z790 Phantom Gaming Riptide, this presumably limited edition ‘SONIC’ version will feature many aesthetics associated with the world’s favourite blue hedgehog. – And, of course, with Sonic the Hedgehog representing ‘speed’ as one of his key adjectives, it’s certainly not a bad association to have to go alongside Intel’s Raptor Lake’s release!
What Do We Think?
While the ASRock Z790 PG certainly looks fantastic, there are clearly more than a few caveats we need to throw around. Firstly, the chances are that this is going to be a limited edition design, so actually getting hold of one might prove difficult. Especially so if this gets the kind of demand we anticipate it will. – Secondly though, being a somewhat exclusive release, it’s probably going to have a price tag to match!
With Intel Raptor Lake now officially released, however, we should learn very shortly is ASRock is indeed planning to go ahead with this design.
