ASRock X79 Extreme9 X79 Motherboard Review

The ASRock UEFI BIOS is certainly user friendly and displays all of your main information upon entering it. This includes which CPU and memory you have installed.

In terms of overclocking, as we’ve seen with other ASRock boards featuring this UEFI BIOS, all the tools that you need can be found under the “OC Tweaker” menu.

Also under this menu, you will find the “Load CPU EZ Setting” which comes bundled with some pre-defined profiles, but from our own experiences, they still need some tweaking to get perfect, as they still result in instability in certain cases.

Other menus within the BIOS include the “Advanced” section, which gives options for various other aspects of the board, including CPU configuration and Storage configuration.

Within “CPU Configuration” there are various options to alter the CPU ratio, enable or disable hyperthreading and much more.

The “Storage Configuration” menu contains all of the Marvell controller settings, and has the ability to change the SATA mode from AHCI to RAID or IDE.

Under the H/W Monitor menu, we find various temperatures, fan speeds and voltages, as well as the option to alter some of the settings to do with cooling.

The last vital part of the BIOS is the boot menu which gives you all of the relevant options for adjusting your boot devices, boot order and option POST screen settings.

We’ve used this BIOS before, and while its easy to control and very bright and bold, the support behind overclocking is still lacking we feel, but we will take a look to see how far we can push our 3960X, as we have with the Extreme4 and other similar boards from ASRock competitors.
