From Assassin’s Creed creator Patrice Désilets and Panche Digital Games comes a new type of open-world third-person game. He calls this latest project ‘Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey’, and it is set in Neogene Africa starting 10 million years in the past. That is much further than any other Assassin’s Creed game before it that you actually play as a pre-historic ape-like biped instead of a human. Hence, the ‘ancestor’ name.
The gameplay from the trailer does look a lot like Assassin’s Creed. Expect to jump, run and fight. Except this time, you are only equipped with primitive tools. Plus, your enemies are other large, prehistoric predators like a Sabretooth Tiger, a Titanoboa, primate-eating Eagles and more.
The story actually spans 10 million to 2 million years ago so expect some variety. Not just in terms of creatures but the evnvironments as well. In fact, the weather and the elements can pose as much risk when you are just a naked ape. Expect overlooking lush jungles, golden grasslands of the savannah, and other untouched natural landscapes.
Players will be forming families, clans and will ultimately decide how they ‘evolve’. Like with typical RPG games, your gameplay choices will determine your evolutionary upgrades and attributes. Thus, making each player’s experience unique as they progress.
The game is expected to come out sometime in 2019. For now, Panache Digital Games has launched its official Steam page with a few screenshots.
