Assassin’s Creed III’s American Revolution setting confirmed

After an initial leak of a possible Assassin’s Creed III artwork by a Best Buy worker, Ubisoft has officially confirmed the time setting and the artwork.

The leaked artwork showed the main character wearing an outfit with the same principal traits from the first games, only slightly updated with an axe and a pistol. On the background was the American flag. This mix of information suggested a setting during the second half of the 18th Century in the New World, with the protagonist potentially being a Native American.

After doing the 12th and 15th Century, this was the next step, with this time period offering a lot of possibilities for the studio to come up with a unique experience at this important time in history.

As for the leaked image, Ubisoft has revealed that they were real, therefore Game Informer has published a whole new load of images to give us a preview of what is to come. One image, as can be seen above, reveals the main character holding what looks like a tomahawk, as well as carrying a bow and quiver on his back.

Three years in the making, the studio is promising Assassin’s Creed III to be the “biggest instalment” of the Assassins versus Knights Templars story, with a complete rethinking of every element of the franchise.

As for Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood, even though considered by some as the third settlement, it is technically a spin-off from Assassin’s Creed II, continuing the story of the game’s protagonist. Ubisoft has promised that Assassin’s Creed III’s main character will be completely new. From what we’re seeing so far, there doesn’t seem to be a reason to argue on that.

As promised by Ubisoft, on Monday 5th we should be revealed more information about the game. The game itself will be released on October 30, 2012.
