Assassin’s Creed III PC Review

As far as system requirements for this game go, it seems a minefield of incorrect information all over the internet when searching for the required spec. I couldn’t find it on the official website, uPlay, their forums or anything. Wikipedia did however have this which mentions nothing about graphics cards or “optimal” recommended hardware. So I’m going to post what wikipedia had then give you my own opinion of performance based on my own hardware.

I’m running an Intel Core i5 3570K @ Stock speeds, 8GB DDR3 1600Mhz and a pair of SLI GTX 660 Ti cards and I get around 50-70Fps on max settings. The game does however suck really bad at SLI, disable SLI and I get that to 60-90FPS on Maximum. So a modern core CPU and anything from a GTX 460 or 6770 should do nicely, of course a better graphics card couldn’t hurt as your only going to see the full benefits of the high end tessellation and anti aliasing techniques on newer cards such as the GTX 600 and AMD 7000 range.

One thing is for certain though, this is by far the best looking game in the series, with some absolutely stunning landscapes to explore.

Character detail and animation is top notch, although the same can be said for the other games in the series. Yet this is definitely the most polished in terms of facial animation and textures.

One thing I loved about the previous Assassin’s Creed games was the Animus loading the levels, Ubisoft have upped the fidelity on this effect as the levels stream in around you as you shift between certain memories in real time.

The improved game engine makes fantastic use of tesselation, soft shadows, advanced AA techniques, cloth simulation and is able to put what seems like 100’s of characters on screen in some of the more frantic scenes.

All the usual modern effects are there too, with various depth of field and light filters adding a slick cinematic feel to the real time cut-scenes and gameplay.
