ASUS announced their latest take on the Moden Router market called the DSL-AC88U. This isn’t just a great looking device, it is also a great performing device with the latest in technology built-in. The difference between a modem router and a normal router is that the modem router supports direct input from your phone line’s RJ11 instead of getting its signal from an RJ45 cable. The new ASUS DSL-AC88U supports the latest high-speed G.fast DSL standard as well as all the previous ADSL, ADSL2/2+ and VDSL2 standards.
The DSL-AC88U is ASUS fastest ever modem router and that is thanks to the cutting-edge Broadcom NitroQAM technology that delivers 1.25X-faster Wi-Fi speeds than standard four-stream (4×4) routers. This enables data rates of up to 2167Mbps on the 5GHz band and up to an impressive 1000Mbps on the 2.4GHz band for a combined concurrent bandwidth of up to 3167Mbps.
While the ASUS DSL-AC88U supports the very latest G.fast DSL protocol, a cutting-edge technology that enables broadband speeds up to 18 times (18X) faster than VDSL2, or 4.5X faster than Vplus (35b) technology, it also supports traditional input via RJ45 such as fiber, cable, and other Ethernet-based inputs.
Parental controls have become more important than ever and the DSL-AC88U also has a comprehensive setup in this regard. Parents are able to block websites that they don’t want their kids to visit, block ports or apps from going online, and create a scheduling for when they’re allowed to connect to the internet all together. All through the easy-to-use web interface.
A feature often missing from routers is the ability to setup link aggregation, but not so in this case. It also supports both VPN server and VPN client, allowing you to tunnel your way securely to where you want to go.
The antennas are removable, allowing you to upgrade them to more powerful ones, should you wish to do so. However, that will remove a part of the cool design that the pre-installed antennas give to the device.
The ASUS DSL-AC88U will be available from the first week of March in the UK with a suggested retail price of £219.99. That isn’t cheap, but in return, you get one of the best performing routers designed for home-usage.
