ASUS’ DirectCU III cooler is a marvel of engineering and able to offer excellent thermal results while being relatively quiet. It’s a big upgrade over the DirectCU II cooler and sports a more neutral design. Despite this, ASUS has acknowledged the older cooler is perfectly fine for lower-end solutions like the GTX 1060 and can pass on the savings to customers. The newly announced GTX 1060 STRIX which uses the DirectCU II cooler has a shorter custom PCB, although the cooler overextends the PCB. Also, the GPU requires a single 6-pin PCI-E connectors and measures about 21cm long.
On another note, the ASUS STRIX GTX 1060 DirectCU II utilises a factory overclocked 1569MHz core frequency and 1785MHz boost. If you deploy ASUS’ GPU Tweak software, it’s possible to unlock the OC mode and enjoy a 1595MHz base clock and 1811MHz boost. Please note, the memory speed in both profiles operates at 8000MHz. Connectivity-wise, the graphics card has three DisplayPort 1.4, one HDMI 2.0b and a dual-link DVI-D. Unfortunately, ASUS didn’t reveal any pricing information as of yet but I’m expecting the card to be significantly cheaper than the DirectCU III version.
