Other than unveiling the WS X299 Pro for Intel HEDT systems, ASUS is also announcing the WS C621 SAGE Motherboard. This time however, it is for LGA3647 socket CPUs. That last word is plural because this motherboard actually supports two Xeon processors at the same time. That means up to 56 cores and 112 threads on one system with Xeon Platinum CPUs. Although each of those CPUs costs $10K to $13K each.
The WS C621E SAGE Motherboard uses an EEB form factor measuring 305 cm x 330 mm. It has 12x DIMM slots supporting up to 768GB of RDIMM and LRDIMM DDR4. If you do the math, that is 1.5TB of memory. There are seven full-size PCIe x16 expansion slots to use (unlike the WS X299 Pro).
In terms of storage, it has 8x SATA3 6G ports natively from the C621 chipset. Meanwhile, ASMedia provides storage controllers for two more SATA3 6G ports, 4x U.2 connectors and a single M.2 slot. There is even a micro-SD card reader underneath one of the DIMM slots.
Like the WS X299 Pro, the network connectivity is from a pair of Intel I210-AT Gigabit LAN Controllers, while the audio sub-system uses a Realtek S1220A 7.1-Channel HD Audio codec.
The actual pricing and release date information is not available yet. However, considering it is a Xeon workstation, expect it to be $700+ USD or higher.
