ASUS Cerberus V2 Stereo Gaming Headset Review

ASUS recently revealed the latest addition to their Cerberus range a few weeks ago, the V2 headset. For around £60, the headset promises to deliver all the core features you would want from a gaming headset, with multi-format support, powerful drivers, dual-microphones and more, while still maintaining that competitive price.

We’ve seen great value for money from the Cerberus range before, as we reviewed the Cerberus keyboard, mouse, and headset (v1) all at the same time, as a gaming bundle you could pick up for less than £100. It was certainly impressive, and we’re happy to see that ASUS hasn’t abandoned their affordable product range. This new V2 headset is almost twice the price of the old one, but it does have more features to justify it, and hopefully, it has better performance too, which we aim to find out today!

Equipped with powerful 53mm drivers, a stainless steel headband with auto adjustment, dual microphones (one on cable, and a detachable boom), the Cerberus V2 certainly sounds like an upgrade on paper, so let’s get it out of the box and take a closer look!

Exclusive 53mm Asus Essence drivers – Stronger bass, clearer sound

Exclusive ASUS Essence drivers bring gaming audio to a whole new level, fully immersing you in the game with lifelike sound effects. ASUS engineers reduced the size of the drivers from 60mm in the original Cerberus to 53mm in Cerberus V2, enabling the headphones to have larger chambers for richer, more natural sound. Combined with the drivers’ wide frequency response that delivers hard-hitting bass and detailed mid- and high-range pitches, Cerberus V2 is not only great for gaming, but for music listening as well.

Stainless steel headband – Tough, long-lasting design

To withstand the rigors of intense gaming, Cerberus V2’s headband has been redesigned with a durable, stainless-steel construction. This new design is not only 70% stronger than the original Cerberus, but 60% lighter and 50% thinner as well, making it more comfortable and well suited for long gaming sessions and listening to music on the go.

Dual microphones – Good for gaming and on-the-go chat

Cerberus V2 is thoughtfully designed with two microphones: a detachable boom mic that provides clear communication when gaming, and an in-line microphone that is convenient for phone calls and other everyday tasks.

Packaging and Accessories

We usually feature the box here. However, the courier was a ham-fisted ape and crushed it. Fortunately, the headset is undamaged; the box absorbed the impact just fine. In the box, you’ll find the usual documentation, as well as an extension Y-split cable for those using the headset on a desktop computer.
