Motherboard giant ASUS is joining the virtual reality game with the unveiling of their HC102 mixed reality headset. This is great news for virtual reality since the company has the resources and has the reach to compete. The HC102 itself features some interesting designs which make it stand out from other virtual reality headsets in the market.
It is capable of a 2880 x 1200 total resolution or 1440 x 1440 per-eye at 90Hz. The head mounted display also has a gyroscope, accelerometer, and magnetometer. There are two inside-out position tracking cameras and has a 3.5mm audio jack for connecting earphones.
Since this headset will find a lot of active use, they uses an anti-bacterial coating on its surface. It also uses quick-drying materials and cool-touch fabrics for comfort. The headset is also built to be quite lightweight at only 400 grams so as not to put additional strain during long use.
One advantage that the company promises over its competitors is its ease of set up. Approximately, taking less than 10 minutes.
The HC102 comes with a pair of motion controllers and will be available in retail stores for €449. This is quite a bit higher than DELL’s Windows MR Visor. Although, ASUS did not announce the exact availability and launch date yet.
