Asus has introduced the Sabertooth 990FX/Gen 3.0 R 2.0, officially the first AMD board with a PCIe 3.0 interface.
Asus did this using a PLX 48-lane PCI-Express Gen 3.0 bridge chip which will run the first PCIe x16 on x16 mode, and at x8 each when using a dual card configuration.
Apart from bragging rights on having the first PCIe 3.0 slots on an AMD board, the boards also comes with eight SATA 6Gb/s ports, two eSATA 6Gb/s ports, 8-Channel audio ports and six USB 3.0. The launch data isn’t yet revealed but according to Techpowerup, the board is set to be released “very soon”.
