The ASUS Echelon Forest have a pretty comfortable fit and the drivers have a closed design that gives does a good job of blocking out external noise. This is great news if you’re planning on using the headset in a noisy environment as it should help you focus on your game, rather than the noise going on around you.
Bass performance is good and there is a nice low-end thump that is distortion free, but the mid and high frequencies are a little boosted, giving much of the sound a slightly tinny sound. The boost does work well for gaming, as it makes footsteps clearer in FPS games and games often have a boosted low-end anyway, so that balances out nicely, but for movies and gaming, it’s a completely different story. Music sounds a little hollow and while movies do benefit from clear vocal tracks, those wanting a cinematic experience may want to invest in a dedicated set of headphones rather than a gaming headset.
The sound is crystal clear overall and this really stands out in team chat, as voices sound clean and natural. The microphone is good too, perfect for chat or even just Skype calls. Overall, great for gaming, not ideal for anything else.
