ASUS Embarks on Bizarre Marketing Campaign

Every so often, technology giants launch cringeworthy marketing efforts which are difficult to understand and become a source of mockery. ASUS’ latest marketing campaign to showcase the ZenBook 3 is embarrassing and doesn’t seem to fit with the company’s usual tone. ASUS integrated two images into a tweet and asked users if they’d date a person holding a cat or the ZenBook 3. Furthermore, the company used terms which are going to cause controversy and result in a backlash. This campaign wasn’t just directly towards one gender and the same question was directed at women, albeit with a slight stereotypical change. Unfortunately, the tweets have just been removed but TheNextWeb managed to screenshot one of the posts.

The advertising doesn’t even make any sense because users are asked to give feedback based via the heart or thumbs up icon. These tools do not exist on Twitter and the only viable option to gauge opinion is through the retweet and like system. Clearly, the campaign was meant for Facebook users. Whatever the case, I don’t think this is ASUS’ finest hour and it’s a mistake they probably won’t make again. Whether or not this has damaged their brand with certain people remains to be seen.
