ASUS and Gigabyte RX 470 Custom Cards Pictured

Reportedly set to launch later today, we’re now getting more pictures of what the RX 470 custom models may look like. The smaller sibling to the RX 480, the RX 470 sports 2048 GCN 4.0 shaders with 4GB of GDDR5 over a 256bit bus. We’ve already seen the Sapphire and XFX models for the Polaris 10 graphics card and now we’re getting our first look at the ASUS ROG STRIX and the Gigabyte G1 Gaming OC.

First up we have the ASUS RX 470 ROG STRIX. Unlike the RX 480 STRIX, the RX 470 version features a simple dual-fan cooler instead of a triple fan solution. ASUS has also opted to keep the 4GB default VRAM buffer instead of pushing for the optional 8GB. As expected the PCB is custom and there are at least 2 heatpipes. In keeping with the current industry trends, the card features their AURA RGB controllable LED lighting and likely 0dB operating mode. There is no information available yet on exact clock speeds but it will be higher than the 1206 Mhz stock boost speed given the factory overclock.

Next up, we have the Gigabyte RX 470 G1 Gaming OC. As expected from the name, the card features a yet to be determined factory overclock. The card features a dual-fan WINDFORCE cooling solution and likely 0dB fan mode as well. Just like the ASUS, it features RGB LED lighting as part of their RGB SPECTRUM package and it maintains the same 4GB reference VRAM buffer.

Given the potential with improved Crossfire and DX12 multi-adapter, it’s a shame that the AIB partners aren’t jumping onto that bandwagon with 8GB cards. While 4GB will suffice for even 4K right now, that likely won’t hold true for that much longer. Hopefully, we’ll see some 8GB models but I guess AMD and their partners want to keep that space the RX 480.
