ASUS have just unveiled their latest series of portable USB powered monitors. The ASUS MB168 is a USB powered monitor with a 15.6 inch laptop-style display. The device can be powered and can transfer the video signal over a single USB 3.0 cable hooked up to a standard powered USB 3.0 port. The monitor has a profile of just 8mm and weighs just 800g making it the world’s slimmest and lightest companion display.
The panel used is LED backlit and consumes just 5W when active so won’t drain your battery. The monitor is available with either 1920 x 1080 or 1366 x 768 resolutions – both of which require only a single USB 3.0 cable to operate. Both monitors are also said to work via USB 2.0 but with reduced brightness.
These monitors will come with ASUS EzLink software support that allows the PC to offload graphical support to the monitor meaning a PC can drive up to five MB168 monitors regardless of its graphical capabilities as long as it has enough USB ports. EzLink can also sense ambient light levels to adjust brightness and monitor orientation to switch between landscape and potrait.
