ASUS Introduces Strix, Expedition and Dual RX 500 Series Video Card Models

AMD has officially launched their Radeon RX 500 series graphics cards and ASUS has listed eight initial models for the STRIX Gaming, DUAL and new Expedition line. The ASUS STRIX gaming graphics cards have the most feature-set out of all currently available models, including RGB LED functionality controllable via ASUS Aura Sync, Super Alloy II VRM redesign, IP5X Certified fans, and more. The DUAL series are at the sweet-spot in terms of price and features, while the new Expedition line offers the best value out of all models.

The ASUS STRIX Gaming line will get four models in total; two of which are RX 580 8GB and two are RX 570 4GB graphics cards. Between them, there will be a regular and an OC variant, otherwise the feature set is the same. The ROG Strix Radeon RX 580 and ROG Strix Radeon RX 580 OC will come with a triple fan design and measures 29.8  x 13.4  x5.25 cm. Aside from having a customized PCB and upgraded VRM, ASUS has outfitted all STRIX models with a backplate (with LED), an interposer heatsink plate for RAM and VRM, 5x 6mm thick nickel-plated copper heatpipe heatsink and three IP5X certified dust resistant fans which can shut down when not in use.

The ASUS ROG STRIX RX 580 graphics cards use a single 8-pin power connector. The standard version has a core clock of 1340MHz in gaming mode and 1360MHz in OC mode, while the OC version has a 1360MHz gaming mode and 1380 OC mode preset. Both cards have a dual-link DVI port, two DisplayPorts and two HDMI ports.

Unlike the ROG STRIX RX 580, the ROG STRIX RX 570 uses dual IP5X fans and lacks the interposer plate for the VRM and Memory ICs, as well as the backplate. It still has RGB LED functionality on the shroud however, and swaps the 5x 6mm heatpipe design for a dual 8mm thick nickel plated heatpipe cooler.

The ROG STRIX RX 570 4G measures 24  x 12.9  x3.9 cm and also uses a single 8-pin PSU connector. It has one DisplayPort, one HDMI port and two DVI ports in the rear IO. Both the regular version and the OC version runs an effective memory clock speed of 7000MHz, although the regular version’s core clock runs at 1244 MHz (Gaming mode) and 1254 MHz (OC Mode) while the OC version runs at 1300 MHz (Gaming mode) and 1310 MHz (OC mode).

The cost-effective DUAL series RX 580 is only available with the 4GB memory configuration, although it is also available in a standard (1340/1360 MHz) and a factory overclocked (1360/1380 MHz) variant. The card measures 24.2  x 12.89  x3.8 cm and uses the same dual IP5X certified Wing-blade fans as the STRIX RX 570 video card as well as the dual 8mm thick nickel-plated copper heatpipe heatsink design underneath.

While it lacks the LED features of the STRIX series as well as its backplate, there is a stiffening brace installed running along the side for rigidity and to prevent the card from sagging over time. It also requires a single 8-pin power connector but in terms of display connectivity in the rear, it has a DVI-D port, two HDMI ports and two DisplayPorts available.

The most affordable series in the ASUS RX 500 group is the new Expedition line which only offers the RX 570 4G graphics card but in a regular and OC variant as well. The regular RX 570 Expedition has a core clock of 1244 /1254 MHz in Gaming/OC mode while the RX 570 Expedition OC has a core clock of 1256 /1266 MHz in Gaming/OC mode. Both cards measure 24  x 13  x3.89 cm and use

The Expedition series also uses the same IP5X certified fans as the STRIX and DUAL series, as well as reusing the same dual 8mm thick heatpipe design but the most obvious difference is in the rear display output choices which only include one HDMI, one DisplayPort and one DVI port, supprting a max resolution of 5120 x 2880.
