ASUS Introduces Blue Cave AC2600 Router

Is it a Router or a Donut?

ASUS has an interesting new router design in the market, which they are calling the Blue Cave AC2600.Unlike other devices, it has a giant blue hole in the middle. Normally, one would think that this design serves some sort of revolutionary new way of increasing wireless range. However, ASUS makes absolutely no fuss about it. Which means it is most likely nothing but an aesthetic choice.

This has been verified now by The Verge, who spoke to ASUS’ engineers about the design. Surprisingly, it was actually harder for them to do just to put a hole in the middle. Normally if you want a strong Wi-Fi signal, you simply put antennas on the device. Just like with the ASUS RoG Rapture router. However, since ASUS wanted a clean looking device they could not do that with the Blue Cave.

What Actual Router Features Does it Have?

For starters it is an Intel Lantiq PXB4395EL 1.6GHz powered device with 512MB of DDR3 RAM inside. As the name suggests, it is a dual-band Wireless 802.11ac router, but it is designed for Smart Home use. That includes Amazon Alexa support, and interactivity with ASUS’ home network ecosystem.

In terms of physical connectivity, it comes with four Gigabit LAN ports, a WAN port and a single USB 3.1 Gen1 port. It also features commercial-grade network security with AiProtection powered by Trend Micro.

How Much Does the Blue Cave Cost?

Users can expect to find the Blue Cave AC2600 router starting at $180 USD.
