Asus Maximus IV Extreme-Z Z68 Motherboard Review

PackagingThe box is very much what we expected for a Republic of Gamers product with bright red bold colours and a simple front with just the model name.
The front panel on the box opens up allowing you to see some of the key features of the board that have been implemented as a ROG board.
By opening the flap panel, it also gives you a first glance at the board which is always a nice feature if looking at this board in a shop, where you’re unable to remove the product from the packaging.
Moving to the back, we find a short specification table listing the main component support for the board as well as highlighting some of the main features again.
Inside, we are literally showered in accessories, with a case sticker, labels, feature guide, users guide, quick install guide, casebadge sticker and drive installation CD as well as some information on the Asus Xonar audio cards.
It doesn’t end there though, and we find that also inside are four SATA II cables, four SATA III cables, an I/O panel shield plate, USB backplate, ROG connect cable, 3-way SLI connector, single SLI bridge and CrossFire bridge as well as a Bluetooth module, EZ connector blocks and temperature probes. A hefty package indeed, and we feel that Asus and ROG have definitely covered all bases with this one.
