Asus Maximus V Gene (Z77) Motherboard Ivy Bridge Review

Overclocking with Ivy Bridge is as new to us as it is to you and thus we are in uncharted waters with what our chip is capable of. From past experiences with the ROG boards from Asus, the Maximus V Gene has all the right credentials for giving us a good insight into the overclocking capabilities of our Ivy Bridge chip.

To be honest, I was expecting the chip to fly past the 5GHz barrier without any troubles at all, much like our 2700k would. Unfortunately though this is not the case here, getting the chip past the 4.9GHz barrier did take some doing and in the end dropping the multiplier and raising the BCLK was the only stable way of doing so.
