Asus P8Z68-V LX Z68 Motherboard Review

Being an Asus board, we get the famous graphical UEFI BIOS that we’ve come to love due to its friendliness, ease of use and the fact that it’s extremely easy to overclock your components to the extreme.

The AI Tweaker is where we find the overclocking options and settings for tweaking the processor, memory and voltages on the board.

Setting memory timings is easy, though this board does support XMP so setting memory options should be easy none the less.

Various CPU configuration settings can be changed including disabling the various halt states and increasing the CPU ratio/multiplier if overclocking.

Legacy USB 3.0 support is also on this board, so that your devices can be used in the relevant USB ports on the rear I/O, even without a driver installed.

The typical monitoring screen shows temperatures, fan speeds and relevant voltages of your system.

If you want to flash the BIOS, find out SPD information of save/load an overclocking profile, there is plenty of pre-installed parts of the BIOS that allow you to do so.

This BIOS seems to offer everything for everyone including areas devoted to novice and advanced users including the overclocker who wants to squeeze every last drop of performance from their system.

  1. I've read in a few places that overclocking isn't as easy as you make it sound, due to not being able to manually set voltages, only being able to use +/- offsets. What was your experience with this? I plan on getting a 2500k with potentially this board, but if it is going to cause some issues I might spend the extra $50 for the non-LX version.

    1. I am running this just now and there is no problem overclocking at all. I am no overclocker so the one hit button and it does it all is great, for the enthusiast you can also delve deeper in to the voltages etc. To be honest it's a great board well worth a look and for the price it's great value for money. I am running 2500K and it sits at 4.5Ghz with only air cooling and that was the one hit button affair. Can you ask for more right now, nah i doubt it. Good luck
