ASUS have taken the gaming monitor market by storm and released a huge range of popular models sporting various display technologies including TN and IPS. Not only that, they’ve ensured consumers can enjoy G-Sync and Freesync on certain monitors and employed a good stand with lots of ergonomic adjustments. Products like the ROG Swift sold incredibly well due to the attractive styling and 1ms response time. Of course, ASUS is constantly developing their monitor range and recently launched a 21:9 3440×1440 panel.
Traditionally, consumers had to choose between a high-resolution 60Hz monitor or lower resolution display with a higher refresh rate. Thankfully, this notion is now becoming a thing of the past and you can easily acquire fairly responsive 2560×1440 products with an IPS panel. Thankfully, this is now also applying to 4K monitors according to an image taken by PCGH which shows the upcoming release of a new ASUS UHD 144Hz monitor. This particular unit features an AHVA panel by AU Optronics. Unfortunately, there’s no information regarding the use of variable refresh but I’m certain this should be revealed relatively soon.
Of course, achieving 144 frames-per-second on a 4K monitor is a frightfully difficult task in demanding games which makes me wonder what its purpose actually is. Perhaps, the monitor is designed for users who own extremely powerful multi-card setups or simply enjoy the improved responsiveness 144Hz brings in a desktop environment. Whatever the case, I’m sure this will prove to be very popular and provide a marvellous user-experience once graphics hardware catches up.
