Pricing
The Intel X299 platform for the extreme end of the market, targetting professionals and enthusiasts. As such, it’s priced to reflect the high-end feature sets it offers. The ASUS PRIME X299 Deluxe ATX Motherboard will set you back around £390. Of course, with the performance and features it offers, we think it’s worth every penny of that.
Overview
The new Intel Core-X processors are certainly impressive, and it’s understandable that such extreme performance can only be delivered with a good motherboard to install them in. The Prime Deluxe is easily one of the best motherboards on the market today, and it’s packed full of features that are sure to appeal to system builders.
From a video rendering and editing rig in the office, a 4K and VR extreme gaming system, CAD work, or even just content creators who do a lot of game streaming, the Deluxe has a lot to offer. With room for 8 x DDR4 DIMMS, three graphics cards, and dual M.2 storage drives, it’s going to be easy to build the system of your dreams. OK, it’s going to be a damn expensive dream, but you get what you pay for.
Build Quality
A huge amount of attention has gone into the aesthetics of this motherboard. With that monochrome design, it really does look fantastic. Add to that the practical features, like a chunky VRM heat sink, M.2 heatsink, high-quality capacitors for the power delivery, and for the audio hardware, armoured PCIe slots. The list goes on, but overall, it’s a very well made motherboard that should deliver round the clock stability.
Added Value
I love the added features on this motherboard, and especially the high-quality onboard audio. For content creators, you’re unlikely to need a separate sound card, and for everyone else, it’s going to deliver great performance for your speakers and headsets while enjoying your favourite multimedia.
Onboard controls make it super easy to overclock, and the BIOS reset on the back is handy for when you screw up too many settings. The LiveDash isn’t a new feature to us, but it’s a nice one to see again. Being able to check power and performance at a glance is a real time saver; plus it looks cool too.
With some of the fastest WiFi and dual LAN, gamers and content creators can ensure they have an incredibly stable and low latency experience too. Finally, with more USB ports, Thunderbolt 3, a fan hub and more also thrown into the mix, connectivity is unlikely to ever become a problem.
