Asus Radeon HD 7770 DirectCU TOP CrossFire Review

CrossFire is a great technology that gives consumers on a budget a much friendlier way to get the very best gaming performance, as it allows you to buy a slightly lower spec card and then when you have the ability to do so; buy a second card or if the pennies allow, third and fourth cards and that is something that AMD have realised and have managed to harness it and market it extremely well.

The HD 7770 range of cards is already a fantastic seller and gives a fantastic bang for buck when on a budget, but now that AMD have started to offer games along with the cards, it’s an even bigger incentive, as we all buy cards like this to be able to game, right? Now you have the ability to purchase two of these cards at once, and save a huge chunk of money in the process by getting some of the latest titles on the market thrown in.

Throughout most of our tests we saw two of these cards rivalling the performance of the HD 7950 and Nvidia GTX 660 and 660 Ti cards. Also, if you look back at our performance charts, you will see some very good scaling, with certain tests offering amazing 100% scaling with double the framerates compared to running one of these cards in a single GPU configuration.

Depending if you shop around, you should be able to find these cards for just under the £100 mark each, and with two cards coming in at £200, while it may not be as price friendly as a GTX 660, you will be getting some expensive games in the process, and in certain tests, we saw this knocking on the performance door of the 660 Ti which retails for around another £50, giving us fantastic value for money when buying two of these cards. If you’ve already taken a look at our single card review, you’ll know that these cards include the DirectCU cooler which offers fantastic performance, low power usage and stays virtually silent, even when pushed to the limits of performance, and they overclock quite well too giving us a lot of headroom if you require an extra boost in performance at a later date, though they do come factory overclocked as it is.

All in all, we believe that Asus and AMD together have offered a great package to the consumers during the festive period, and as we all know, it’s all about getting the best deal for you, and we’d be quite happy to recommend this bundle to anyone. With that in mind, some brands are actually offering discounts and bundles of two cards, so it will be interesting to see if Asus follow suit and make a SKU that incorporates two of these cards for one set price point, but I guess only time will tell.
