ASUS ROG Announces Matrix GTX 980

We’ve seen a few leaks and last week we were teased with the Matrix GTX 980 from ASUS’ Republic of Gamers department, but now it’s official and the Matrix GTX 980 has been announced. The new card has already created an impressive 3DMark 11 score of 28,557 with higher scores expected once the world’s overclockers get their hands on this new beauty.

The highlighted features on this graphics card are the DirectCU II cooler with CoolTech fan, the matt-black heat pipes and the ROG LED that will show the real-time load for those who have side panels with windows or open case systems. For the extreme overclockers it packs a memory defroster on the bottom side of the PCB, an extra 4pin Molex power connector and a reset button if the overclocking failed to bad.

There are many other features too, as the Matrix GTX980 will come with ASUS DIGI+ VRM with 14 phases, upgraded Super Alloy Power bits and 10k black metallic capacitors.

The card features a boosted GPU speed of 1342 MHz which is said to give up to 13% better performance in gaming, quite a nice accomplishment. The base clock is running at 1241MHz and the 4GB GDDR5 memory is running on a 256-bit interface at 7010MHz.

The Matrix features the ROG edition of GPU Tweak that adds detailed GPU load-line calibration and VRM-frequency tuning and it lets users share on-screen actions over the internet in real-time.

The new ASUS ROG Matrix GTX 980 is said to be available from starting mid-December, but the most shops have an estimated time of arrival set to the 2nd January. Overclockers UK currently has it listed as pre-order option at a price of £629.99 inc VAT.

While the black and red coloured theme might not be every ones cup of tea, they are the ROG colours. And even looking aside from the colour choice, once can’t deny that this is both a beauty in optics and a beast on the specifications.
